In 2015 Qatar hosted the Men's World Handball Championships in three venues in the capital city Doha. Auditoria was engaged audio and comms for the Ceremonies and concerts by David Atkins Enterprises and for Sports Presentation by Great Big Events.
The audio system for Lusail Sports Arena, designed by Scott Willsallen, was a ground stacked system of 36 L-Acoustics K2 and SB28 subwoofers to augment the Meyer Sound house system. The audio control system consisted of a dual-engine DiGiCo SD7 and a comprehensive Optocore signal transport network distributing the signals throughout the arena. The replay system consisted of a dual-redundant pair of Fairlight machines as used on Sochi 2014 and many other major event projects.
The comms and show control systems consisted of a Clearcom digital matrix system, a FreeSpeak II full-duplex wireless system, interfaced conventional two-way radio network and time-code distribution system.
Our team for the project included the following:
- Scott Willsallen, Audio Director
- Martyn Ward, FOH mix engineer
- Steve Logan and Luis Miranda, Replay operators
- Chris Johnson, Audio systems engineer
- Andrea Tesini, RF engineer
The audio equipment and crew was supplied by Delta Dubai and Agora from Italy. The comms equipment and crew was supplied by The PA People from Australia.
